I'm sure you got many questions - Here's how to deal with them

DURATION: 3 MINS

You are the (hopefully) proud owner of an ever curious mind. While that's generally a good thing, when it comes to learning German at such an early stage, it is rather a distraction. Asking too many questions will slow you down and distract you from what is truly important. Here's a few very simple and effective ways to deal with all those questions that come up when working with this course:

The Mind Pleasing Notebook

Write all why-questions (e.g. Why is it "in der Stadt"? or Why is it Akkusativ?) in a (digital) notebook and browse them once a week or less often just to see whether some of them have already been answered automatically. In 99,99% of the cases there is no reason to have those questions answered before they are being explained here. Putting them into your mind-pleasing notebook will put your mind at rest as it will then think that your questions are taken care of.

Have your 30 mins of Guilty Pleasure

f you really MUST have the answer to your question, simply check the SG Community for an answer. But don't just do it whenever it pleases you. Do it once or twice per week in a time slot of 15 minutes. That's your window of pleasure when you are allowed to scratch your itch.

Gather your Questions

If you can't find any answer quickly, mark that question and collect 3-5 of them before posting in the Community. Ideally you post them there once per week max or ideally only once per month as the vast majority of questions that you might have are rather irrelevant for your learning progress.

Of course anything that prevents you from working smoothly is of utmost importance and should be reported immediately.

Make sure to give your question a short but siginificant title. Add the Lesson number and step to it like this: L02 - Writing - Why "in der Stadt"? or General: How to do the Preaching exercise? and if you have a problem add a screenshot and the URL to your post as that helps us to fix a problem in less than a minute instead of days. And ideally you create a post for each question individually as that'll help other learners with the same problem to find the answer quicker.

Summary

  • Let got of the itch to get an instant answer to all your questions and use the Mind Pleasing Notebook
  • Gather questions to look them up in the Community once or twice per week: 15mins max.
  • Gather questions before you post them once per week. Post them one by one
