Musik: Nena - 99 Luftballons

A German course that doesn't mention Nena, doesn't deserve to be called a German course. ;) If you haven't heard of this song yet, ask your parents or grandparents. If they don't know it they didn't have TV when they grew up. There's even an English version of this song. Just search for "99 red balloons" on YouTube and you'll certainly find it.

Don't worry about understanding anything of the lyrics yet. These videos at the end of each lesson are not about understanding language though they are mostly in German. They are there to help you connect emotionally with the German language and culture which is as important for your success as sitting down and grinding through your next dictation.

Don't forget to turn on subtitles and if you want to follow the story their translation as shown in lesson 01.

Enjoy

Word of the Day

The word of the song for me is "Düsenflieger" literally "jet plane" which is a word kids might use for "Jet, m" but "Flieger, m" is pretty common: "Mein Flieger hat Verspätung." (=my plane is delayed). What is your favorite word in that song above? Share it with us in the comments below or in the Community.
