Presentation - Performance Check

After you have done your presentation using Speechnotes, take a look at the transcription. There are a few easily avoidable mistakes every learner makes and which in an exam could cost you Kopf and Kragen (head and neck). Therefore it is elementary, dear Watson, that you follow the steps below with every single text:

  1. Check for verb positions and verb endings
    a) Does the verb ending fit the subject (i.e. the person performing the action)? E.g. if the subject is an "ich" the verb always ends in -e e.g. like in "Ich wohne" (the "ich" is doing the "living" and is therefore the subject)
    b) Is the verb on the position where it should be? If you don't know where to put verbs yet, don't worry and leave things as they are until we cover this topic in the course. It usually on position 2 but there are other possibilities. Just look out for verbs in every text that you read to develop a feeling for this. Position 2 doesn't always mean that it's the second word in a sentence. E.g. here: Morgen früh lerne ich Deutsch. the verb "lerne" is in position two but it's the third word in the sentence. Don't worry too much about any of this. It'll come to you as you proceed with this course.
  2. Use Deepl Write as follows:
    a) Copy or write your text into the DeepL write textbox
    b) Don’t forget to change the language to German
  3. Repeat your presentation speech
After having worked through your transcription as described above, repeat your presentation speech with help of your keywords from before. Don't forget to activate "German" in Speechnotes. Once you are done, compare your new transcription with the first, corrected transcription and pay attention to your improvements. Remember: Never aim at 100% perfection. If you like, repeat this procedure 2-3 more times. The more you practice, the better you'll get at this.
