Preaching - Warm-up
Memorize the gender of a few new words with help of the memo stories below. This will be the last time I'll provide you with ready made stories. From Lesson 04 onwards you will have to create those stories on your own. Don't worry: 99,99% of all smarterGerman learners have managed so far. And the one in a thousand that struggled initially finally also came along. Here's the list of words you are about to learn the gender of. DO NOT LEARN their meaning. This is not a vocabulary exercise:
- Garten (m) - garden
- Haus (n) - house
- Welt (f) - world
- Ding (n) - thing
- Tür (f) - door
- Idee (f) - idea
- Schloss (n) - lock
- Apfel (m) - apple
- Computer (m) - computer
- Jacke (f) - jacket
Story 01 (m)
A Superhero is heading to his giant bonsai garden where he likes to chill out on Mondays when everybody else is going to work again. His apple tree is bearing fruits. To be precise, one single fruit: a super-apple that gives our hero his powers. Unfortunately, the apple only looks super but tastes horrible. Supi can't take it anymore and does some research on his super-fast super computer about how to make super-apples taste better. That computer is of course a mac. Windows is for babies.
Story 02 (n)
Our German baby is so fat because it loves bread. You remember that, don't you? It is the one thing that makes it happy just right after beer. Babies can't really talk, so whenever it sees a loaf of bread it says: thing, thing, thing. In fact, the baby is craving so much for its bread that they have to lock it into its room with a beautiful, pink lock. No matter what the baby is trying, that lock won't open which makes the baby cry bitterly.
Story 03 (f)
The German fairy is so powerful, she can create whole worlds with her magic. She also created this one which makes her the mother of our world. It's actually pretty easy for her to create a new world. All she got to do is to have an idea. You knew that ideas were powerful, didn't you? Today, our German fairy has the idea of creating a new kind of door: One walks through that magic door and instantly knows all languages on earth. But as a price for the ability to understand and speak all languages of the world one is doomed to feel cold all the time. The fairy isn't stupid so she does her magic one more time and creates a jacket that keeps you warm on the inside.
