Dictation - Introduction
On the next page you'll do a so called "dictation". A dictation simply means that you'll listen to a piece of audio, pause it and then write down what you have heard. I'll guide you through that task in a short tutorial video on the next page. Dictations train several skills of yours at once:
- LISTENING
Achtung: It is perfectly natural that you will not be able to hear certain endings right away. Even a native German speaker can't physically hear a difference between "einen" and "ein". You will have to learn to "hear" them with your memory i.e. you'll simply know that what you just heard was a "einen" or a "ein". - WRITING:
After a few dictations, you will be able to spell many German words correctly intuitively. Let your brain do all the work here. There's no need for you to remember anything consciously. - READING:
What you write, you will automatically read. And you'll read the text a couple of times with each dictation. - GRAMMAR:
Your grammar skills will - sooner or later - help you to “hear” things that acually can't be heard like most endings. So don't worry if you still make quite a few mistakes. The more you work with this course the better your dications will become and the more dictations you write, the easier it'll be to take in the grammar when you finally come across it.
