This chapter should be a piece of cake. We have a look at the so called ordinal numbers, which you use e.g.

  • when you describe a sequence:
    Maaike is first, Tom is second and Michael is third.
    Maaike ist Erste, Tom ist Zweiter und Michael ist Dritter.
  • when you talk about the date:
    What day is it? Today is the twenty second of February.
    Welcher Tag ist heute? Heute ist der zweiundzwanzigste Februar.
  • or when you enumerate sth.:
    First I am tired, second I don’t have the time and third …
    Erstens bin ich müde, zweitens habe ich keine Zeit und drittens…

We are building the ordinal numbers by simply putting .te/ .ste behind the number:

Numbers 1-19: number.te (*with exception of 1, 3, 7, 8, see below)
From 20 onwards: number.ste

When you ask what day it is, you can say:

Der Wievielte ist heute? Heute ist der …
ers.te*
zwei.te
drit.te*
vier.te
fünf.te
sieb.te*
ach.te*
neun.te
zehn.te
elf.te
….
neunzehn.te
zwanzig.ste
einundzwanzig.ste

Example
A: Der Wievielte ist heute eigentlich?
B: Heute ist der 5. Februar.
A: Der Wievielte?
B: Der 5. Februar.

Pattern
A: Der Wievielte ist heute eigentlich?
B: Heute ist der trigger trigger.
A: Der Wievielte?
B: Der trigger trigger.

If the text Speechnotes transcribed is different by a lot from the transcription below, don't worry about it. You will do this a couple more times and you will see an improvement. If Speechnotes doesn't understand you, try to speak slowly, more articulated and use an external microphone e.g. a headset.
